Can You Spell J-O-B?

Now that you’re a real teenager it may be time to look into earning your own cash. In order to bring in some dough, you’ll need to get a job. A WHAT?!
I know, I know—you’re thinking, “Why can’t my parents just give me money?” Part of becoming a beautiful, young woman is taking on more responsibility. Working is a great way to learn time and money management, along with working with others.

If you have big goals to buy a car by the time you get your license or just want a killer pair of leather boots by December, earning your own money can get you closer to your big purchase. If you’re earning a paycheck, you won’t have to ask your parents for money every time you want to go to the movies or grab a bite to eat with your friends. They’ll definitely admire your maturity!

Juggling a job and school can be really tough. School should be your number one priority, of course. If your job is getting in the way of your schoolwork, it is time to move on. If you are missing homework assignments or come to school exhausted because you worked the night before, your job is affecting the quality of your schoolwork in a bad way.

So what job is right for you? If you love kids, give babysitting a try. Babysitting jobs may give you a little more freedom during the week, but you may have to give up your Saturday night to make some cash. To advertise your services, can talk to neighbors and find out if anyone’s looking for a sitter. Before taking on a job, you should always discuss pay and hours. Whether it’s a school night or a weekend, discuss how late you can sit until. Set an amount you want to get paid by the hour. Don’t demand too much. If you know other babysitters your age, ask them what they get paid.

If you require a fast-paced environment, check into fast food restaurants that may be hiring. You’ll learn how to deal under pressure and gain valuable experience serving people. Reputable fast food restaurants follow strict guidelines when employing teens, so you’ll never be expected to work late.

Are you a good keyboarder or interested in gaining experience working in an office environment? Check out your neighborhood library or doctor’s office. You’ll get to dress nice to work and learn the ins and outs of a real office!
Any job you get will serve you in the long run. Working and earning your own money will enable you to be a more responsible and mature person. Take every job seriously and you’ll be successful in life!
