VERSE OF THE DAY!

belle

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
—James 1:19

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Have a brake on your tongue; hit the throttle on your ears. Let your angry email sit three days before responding and make sure you read it and edit it before you send it. Keep you mouth shut and your ears open. They all say the same thing. Now if we would just do it, wouldn't the Christian community so much more blessed!

My Prayer...
Mighty and Holy God, you are incredible — beyond my comprehending. How you put up with all the drivel, senseless and hurtful speech that I and your other children spew out is beyond my understanding. I ask that you release the Holy Spirit to convict my heart and guard my lips from any form of hurtful speech. I want my voice to be as much yours as my heart is. This I pray through Jesus. Amen.

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
—Romans 12:10

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Being "devoted to another in brotherly love" requires that our church talk — we're family, brothers and sisters, children of God — must be more than mere words. We must enter each others lives, getting to know one another so that we can serve, love and bless each other. What have you done lately to get more involved in the lives of your fellow Christians? Devotion to others follows a commitment to know and be known by them!

My Prayer...
Father, thank you for giving me a world wide family. Thank you for loving me so completely. Father I ask that you help me be more open with myself and my time to those in your family. Give me a heart that burns to bless and be blessed by those you have made your children. Through my brother Jesus I pray. Amen.

PRACTICAL TEACHING & STUDIES FROM THE WORD OF GOD

Delayed Repentance - The Cost of Waiting

Obviously, Satan does not want you to repent at all. But if he cannot do that, his next scheme is to delay your repentance. He tries to tell us that it will be easier later on. Most often, that's a lie from the pit! The longer things go on, the harder it becomes to repent! I have literally seen lives destroyed by waiting instead of dealing with it right away. Countless people today are still paying the price for mistakes they've made 20 years ago!

Contrary to popular belief, time does not wash away sins... only the blood of Jesus does that! If you have sins in your past, it doesn't matter how long ago it was, if you have not repented of them, then you're still paying the price today!

Let me ask you a question, and I want you to be honest with yourself... What benefit is there in waiting or delaying your repentance? The truth is, there is none! Delaying your repentance rob you of precious time here on earth to be all that you can be for the glory of God. There are people lying in their graves right now because Christian men and women whom the Lord wanted to use in the healing ministry, have instead chosen to delay their repentance. It kept them out of the ministry, and out of God's will... therefore rendering them useless to the body of Christ!

This is so important, I can't stress it enough: You need to make up your mind today whether you're going to repent or not. Are you really going to repent, or not? If not, then go ahead and throw your towel in... but if you've made the choice to repent, then get it over with. As I said before... why wait? All you're doing is robbing yourself of precious time here on earth!

God has given each of us a very special time here on earth, and how we spend that time will determine our position in eternity. Many Christians spend most of their lives beating around the bush, and out of God's will. God can't use them, because their hearts aren't right before Him. They haven't truly repented of their wrongs, and they continue to justify or cover up their pasts. If they would repent of their pasts instead of covering them up, then God could begin to use them in mighty ways. It isn't God's intent for us to walk around helpless, but rather to give us gifts an operations of the Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:7, it tells us that gifts such as healing or prophecy or discerning of spirits are given unto every member of the body of Christ:

"But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal."

Think of how many people have died of cancer simply because the body of Christ is so weak and helpless? Is it God's will for cancer (a demonic bondage) to go fourth killing His creation? We pray "Our Father who art in heaven... thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" but do we really mean it? Think of how God could use the body of Christ when it's members are repentant of their pasts and stop trying to justify their wrong actions?

Psalms even tells us that delaying a repentance is actually known to cause your flesh (physical body) to decay:

Psalms 31:10, "For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed."

Psalms 32:3, "When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long."

One of my favorite parables on repentance: One time, a young boy and his older sister went to grandma's house for the day. The little girl was old enough to do chores, and grandma was paying her to do things such as wash the dishes, sweep the floors, etc. Grandma had a cute little pet duck whom she loved and cherished. The little boy (we'll call him Steven) was out in the back yard being mean to the duck when he thought nobody saw him. The little girl (we'll call her Jill) saw Steven as he was being mean to the duck, and afterwards ran upto him. She said, "I saw what you did to grandma's ducky... but I won't tell her if you will wash my dishes for me!" So Steven washes all the dishes for her while she's out playing dolls in the back yard. Afterwards, she approaches him and says, "I won't tell grandma if you'll wash the walls for me!" So Steven washes the walls for the next 2 hours while she's outside enjoying the summer day. Afterwards, she approaches him again, and again... and keeps him busy working his tail off just so she will keep quite about his sin. Finally, after the whole day had been wasted, he becomes fed up and runs to grandma... "Grandma!" he says, "I need to tell you something... I was mean to your pet duck." Grandma looks at him, smiles and says, "I know. I was standing at the bathroom window and watched you do it. I was just wondering how long you would let your sister lead you around like she did before you said something!"

The bottom line is, delaying your repentance only robs you of precious time here on earth to do the will of God, and be a blessing to the body of Christ. As long as you are justifying or covering up things in your past, you will never be all that you can be for the glory of God. They will always stand in your way from being used by God in the ultimate way that God has in mind for you. God may be calling you into a healing ministry, but He needs your heart to be right before Him before He pours out the ultimate anointing upon you. Think of how many sick people may be dying over the next 20 years if you aren't able to operate in that anointing!

If that isn't enough, delaying repentance also allows Satan to build strongholds in your mind. The more time he has to do this, the worse the strongholds become. The sooner you break up the devil's plans in your life, the better! Make the choice today to repent, then get it over with. Don't let Satan steal the precious time that God's given you here on earth to fulfill His will in your life!

Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
—Romans 15:2

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
How do you view God? Is he someone looking for a way to condemn you? Is he an out of touch old man who doesn't really know what it's like in our modern world? Is he too holy to soil himself with the concerns of mere mortals and has left it up to us to work everything out for ourselves? No. NO. NO! God chose to enter our world and experience it from the side of mortality. God chose to enter our world, not to condemn us, or it, but to redeem it and each of us. Jesus is the great reminder that God longs to save us, not condemn us. Thank God for God! Thank God for Jesus who was and is God with us.

My Prayer...
Holy and Heavenly God, thank you that you live with those of us who are contrite and repentant and who long for your presence. You know we are only mortal, but you love us. You know that we are flawed, but you redeemed us. You know that we are not perfect, but sent Jesus as the perfect sacrifice to save us. Thank you. Through my Savior I offer my sincerest gratitude and praise. Amen.

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
—Galatians 5:13

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Freedom is a wonderful gift when it is handled with responsibility. Not being under law is such a sweet grace, but we want to pass that sweetness on to each other through service, kindness, and care.

My Prayer...
O Great God of Deliverance, thank you for rescuing Israel from Pharaoh's grasp, David from the sword of Goliath, and Daniel from the lion's den. But O Great Deliverer, thank you most of all for the triumph of Jesus over sin at Calvary and his victory over death at the empty tomb. I long to see you face to face and thank you for my freedom. Until that day, guide me as I use this gift of liberation to serve you children and live for you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.
—1 Corinthians 1:10

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
If people in our congregations are ever going to get along, the leaders of those churches must remind us of how important it is. Jesus' dying prayer was that we would be one. Why? So the world would know that the Father had sent him. Unity is not important, it is essential; not just as a theory or theology, but as a daily practice among the people who claim Jesus as Lord.

My Prayer...
Lord Jesus, you have presented all of my prayers to our Father and I thank you for this grace. I promise that I will do all I can to bring glory of our Father, to live at peace and to serve in unity with those who belong to you. Please bless our church family with more passion for the unity that you desire. In Jesus' name and through the blessed Holy Spirit I pray. Amen.

PRACTICAL TEACHING & STUDIES FROM THE WORD OF GOD

A Thankful Heart 3 - How to become thankful!

How do you become thankful?
Whatever you think about throughout the day, will affect your whole personality and mood. If you spend your day thinking about golf, you will become a golf fanatic. If you spend your time thinking about traveling, you'll want to always be going somewhere or doing something... you will spend your day daydreaming about being somewhere on vacation.

If you spend your day thinking about the negative things around you and things you can complain about, you will develop a pessimistic personality. It will pull you down, and since pessimism and optimism are opposites, whichever one you allow to feed your mind will eventually push the other one farther and farther away.

One of the vital steps to developing a thankful personality, is to meditate (that is to think about often) the things that you have in your life to be thankful for. Make a list of the things God has done for you, and keep those things on your mind throughout the day. It may take a little more work at first, especially if your mind is programmed to think negatively. This process is the tearing down of strongholds and the renewing of your mind as God's Word tells us:

Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

How do we renew our minds? Do we renew them by sitting in church, daydreaming about other things? No, we renew our minds by feeding and meditating on uplifting things (blessings in our lives) and the truth in God's Word. A pastor can help feed us the truth is he or she is preaching the Word of God as the Word was meant to be preached, but it is upto us to take what we hear and allow our minds to feast upon it. Philippines tells us what we are to set our minds upon... which includes the things that are uplifting, lovely, of good report, etc.

Philippines 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Why are newborn Christians so on fire for God? Because their newborn experience is fresh on their mind... they think about it all the time, and since it's a glorious thing to think about, they are naturally all fired up over their newfound relationship with God! The same is true when a person first comes into the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They are on cloud nine, because they are meditating or thinking often about the great gift they have been given! The reason so many Christians lose their fire, is because they've stopped thinking about the wonderful gifts they've been given. We as Christians should continue in this excitement and think often about our relationship with God and the blessings He's given us. If we do that in our everyday lives, we will come into perfect peace:

Isaiah 26:3, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

My challenge to you is to stop and ask yourself, "What have I been thinking about for the past week?" If you want to change the way you perceive things, then you'll have to change the way you think. If you want to develop a thankful heart, then you'll need to meditate and think about the good things God has blessed you with. Even if it seems you have nothing to be thankful for, you have been blessed far beyond those living in the OT era, because of what Jesus has done for YOU! Healing, prosperity, joy, peace, and deliverance are all parts of what Jesus has done for YOU! God's Word tells us that ear hath not heard, nor eye seen the great things that lie ahead for those who love God! Every one of us have a LOT to be thankful for!

1 Corinthians 2:9, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
—Romans 15:5-6

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Unity comes from God's Spirit as we follow Jesus. But, unity has a purpose much deeper than our getting along with each other. Jesus prayed we would be one so that the world would know that God sent Jesus into the world as his Son (John 17). We want to be united so that our praise can bring glory to God. Unity is far more than a goal. Unity is a process through which the world learns of Jesus. At the same time, we glorify the Father who sent Jesus to save us. Leading others to Jesus and glorifying God are what living for Jesus is all about! Let's make unity our passion!

My Prayer...
Great and Almighty God, Eternal Strength for all who call on your name, I apologize and ask your forgiveness for everything I've done and every word I've spoken that have hurt others in your family and brought a wound to the unity of your Church. Please bless my efforts as I seek less of my will, seek to live for your glory, and seek to encourage others. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
—James 3:17-18

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Now I know why righteousness is so hard to find: there aren't many sowers! Heavenly wisdom is full of sacrificial earthly action. That's a powerful reminder to me that wisdom is not what you know but what you sow!

My Prayer...
Holy and Wise Father, thank you for demonstrating purity, peace making, consideration, submissiveness, mercy, good fruit, impartiality, and sincerity in Jesus. I ask for the power and the courage to demonstrate these qualities this week as I seek to live like him. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

PRACTICAL TEACHING & STUDIES FROM THE WORD OF GOD

A Thankful Heart 2
- Recognizing unthankfulness

The seriousness of unthankfulness
An unthankful heart is found in somebody who doesn't appreciate the things that God has given them. Each one of us have been given more than we'll ever know, so there are no excuses for God's children to be unthankful! Unthankfulness is looking at the negative, despite the positive.

God's Word even tells us how people can be given over to homosexuality and all sorts of uncleanliness because they were unthankful:

Romans 1:21,26-27, "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened... For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet."

Symptoms of an unthankful heart
People who are unthankful will naturally have negative personalities, find it easy to complain about little things, or easily become moody. Their minds aren't deeply rooted and grounded in a positive or thankful pattern of thinking, therefore when something comes up that pushes their buttons, they quickly forget about the goodness that God has blessed them with, and begin to complain and grumble in their hearts. This brings about a negative/pessimistic personality or mood. This explains the Israelites when they would go about complaining, even after God has delivered them from the hands of their enemies. In Numbers, we are told of how the Israelites were grumbling over the manna that God was giving them every morning when they woke up, so finally God gave them meat alright... so much that they were vomiting it out of their noses!

Numbers 11:18-20, "And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?"

They were unthankful for what God hath done for them when He brought them out of Egypt, and complained about the food that He was miraculously providing for them. He even said that through complaining, they had despised the Lord their God!! As a result, He gave them all the meat they could handle until it was coming out of their noses and was loathsome unto them.

Unthankful people are known to be bitter or unforgiving towards themselves, God or other people. In Matthew 18, we see a picture of the unthankful servant who was forgiven of a great debt, but could not forgive his fellow servant of a much smaller debt. If a person is bitter or hold things against others, then it shows us that they are unthankful for what God has done for them.

Matthew 18:32-35, "Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses."

If we don't want to be called "O thou wicked servant" on judgment day, then it is a 100% necessity that we forgive those who have offended us. The Bible is even clear that if we don't love one another (and bitterness is proof of hatred), then we are abiding in spiritual death:

1 John 3:14, "...He that loveth not his brother abideth in death."

Unthankful people are always looking down upon themselves or suffer from low self-esteem. God's Word tells us that we have been created in the very image of God, and knit together by the hands of God in our mother's womb, and when we see ourselves as failures, we are in turn being unthankful for the person that God has made us. If we see ourselves as ugly, then we are claiming that God's creation (our bodies) are ugly. Would you walk upto God and dare tell Him that something He made was ugly? I should hope not! But that's what we do everytime we look at ourselves in the mirror and see ourselves as ugly. The same is true with our minds and intelligence. Despite the vast amount of technology we have today, to create a computer processor chip that will do millions of transactions in mere seconds, yet weighs no more than a quarter, there's nothing that man has created that will even come close to the complexity of the human brain. Far too often, we take lightly the wonderful and dynamic gift that God has given us when we consider ourselves dumb or less than brilliant! Each one of us were created in the very image of God, and gifted in many ways, and it is a crying shame when we refer to ourselves as anything less than downright amazing!

Unthankful people are never satisfied with what they have been given, but always want more. This is an obvious sign of an unthankful heart. Greed is a sin that causes us to become unthankful for the things that God has blessed us with. When we become greedy, we are thinking about things we don't have, rather than things we do have.

Unthankful people don't take care of the things God has given them. Those who are thankful for the good things that God has given them will take good care of those things, whether it be their mind, car, body, spouse, children, job, etc. Taking good care of the things which God has given us shows Him that those things mean something to us and we are thankful for them. Not that we ever should worship the things God gives us, but we should take good care of them.

All of these symptoms should not be found in our lives, but if they exist (and I doubt many of us are immune!), there is something we can do about it. Develop a thankful heart!

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
—Hebrews 6:10

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
So much assurance in such a short verse! God is not unjust — boy is that an understatement: if he produced the atoning sacrifice for our sins, what will he deny us if we seek after him? He will not forget our work and love — an eternal record of the good we have done! When we help our brothers and sisters in Christ, we bless him! We are HIS people!! That's real motivation to keep on maturing in Christ.
